All California
Employers must notify Cal-OSHA at least
two days before starting any lead related work. You can use the internet form to report the job, or call DOSH at 1-800-963-9424,
and follow up the call with a written notification. The long explanation is
listed in the code
subsection
(d)(2). There
are exceptions, they are in the lead-in-construction
standard (California
Code Title 8
CCR 1532.1). You can avoid
sending the notification if you are doing any of the following tasks:
(1) the lead
content of the coating/paint
is less than 0.5 percent by weight or 1.0 milligram per square
centimeter of surface area,
(2) the amount of lead-containing coating/paint to be disturbed is less
than 100 square or
100 linear feet, or
(3) the task to be performed is limited to torch cutting or welding
for no longer than 1 hour in any shift.
Filling out and sending the DOSH form does not satisfy the DHS
Regulations. Be certain that you understand all the rules
for the DHS Form 8551.
